In his death certificate of 1889, George Haimes was recorded as a journeyman tailor, married to Jane Deans, and aged 56 years. His parents were deceased. His parents were recorded as George Haimes, barber, and Helen Haimes MS Mouat. This was an error as Mouat was the surname of George's grandmother, Isabell Mowat (variation Mouat).

When Jane Haimes died in 1897 her death certificate recorded her as 'widow of George Haimes tailor'. 2 3 4

  Research Notes:

GEORGE'S AGE AND BIRTHPLACE

George, according to the dates we have, was born about six weeks before his parents' marriage. In the batch number for the christening records where George's birth was recorded in Edinburgh, there are six Tait births, but only George's under the surname Haimes. It seems probable that his mother gave birth in a part of the country where there were family members who could assist her. Then six weeks after his birth, she and his father married in Gladsmuir. This may never have been told to George. He may have thought he had been born in Gladsmuir, and that he was slightly younger than he in fact was.

  Medical Notes:

George Haimes, son of the deceased, of 75 Broughton, Edinburgh, was the informant of George's death.

George married Jean DEANS on 12 November 1854 in Prestonkirk or Haddington parish, East Lothian, Scotland.1 (Jean DEANS was born on 24 March 1828 in Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland 5 6, baptised on 13 April 1828 in Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland and died on 30 May 1897 in 13 High Street, Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland 3.). The cause of her death was broncho-pneumonia over 7 days.
