DE LESLIE, Norman Sheriff of Aberdeenshire, Sir 1 2

  • Born: About 1245
  • Marriage (1): LEITH?, Elizabeth heiress of Edingarioch 1
  • Died: Before 1320 1 2

Norman married Elizabeth LEITH? heiress of Edingarioch.1 (Elizabeth LEITH? heiress of Edingarioch was born about 1265.)

  Marriage Notes:

Norman (de Leslie) succeeded. He is styled in all public documents Sir Norman de Lesley, Dominus de Lesley. He and many of his successors had the honor of knighthood conferred upon them by various kings. He got a charter of the lands of Fythkill, (now called Leslie), in Fifeshire, from King Alexander III, about 1283. He swore fealty to Edward I. at Aberdeen, 1296; was sheriff of Aberdeenshire in 1305; and in Parliament in 1314 He married Elizabeth Leith, heiress of Edengarioch, by whom he had

I. Andrew, his successor.

II. Margaret married to Sir John Innes of Innes.

III. Ann, married to Sir Alexander Dunbar of Westfield."

from Leslie of Balquhain

Note:

Some sources reject Elizabeth Leith as Norman de Leslie's wife. For example in
The Scots Peerage, vol. 7:

"His (Norman's) wife is not certainly known. One authority asserts that he married Elizabeth Leith, heiress of Edengarioch, while another alleges that he married the heiress of Rothes. He had issue, so far as recorded, one son, SIR ANDREW, who succeeded. According to the family historians, Sir Norman had two daughters, Margaret, married to Sir John Innes of Innes, and Ann, married to Sir Alexander Dunbar of Westfleld, but dates will not admit of this." 1 3
