"Sir Alexander (Dunbar), who is named as the third of the brothers in the compact of 1286 and elsewhere. He had a fee or grant of 20 merks sterling bestowed on him by King Alexander III., which continued to be paid after the King's death, up to September 1289."

Alexander married Ann DE LESLIE, daughter of Sir Norman DE LESLIE Sheriff of Aberdeenshire and Elizabeth LEITH? heiress of Edingarioch.¹ (Ann DE LESLIE was born about 1280.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Ann (de Leslie), married to Sir Alexander Dunbar of Westfield."

Note:

There is clearly a problem with this. For example in The Scots Peerage, vol. 7 says:

"According to the family historians, Sir Norman had two daughters, Margaret, married to Sir John Innes of Innes, and Ann, married to Sir Alexander Dunbar of Westfleld, but dates will not admit of this."

Dates would not allow the marriage of Ann to Sir Alexander of Westfield, but it may be only the 'of Westfield" designation that creates a true chronological difficulty. That is what has been followed here ^{1 3}
