Elizabeth married Sir Robert GORDON of Lochinvar, son of Sir John GORDON of Lochinvar and Elizabeth MAXWELL, 1 January or 1 February 1597(1598)(contract) - divorced 1608.^{1 2} The marriage ended in divorced 1608. (Sir Robert GORDON of Lochinvar was born about 1565 and died before 24 January 1628 ¹.). The cause of his death was 'the stone'.

  Marriage Notes:

"Elizabeth (Isabel) (Ruthven), married, first (contract dated 1 February 1597-98 ), to Sir Robert Gordon of Lochinvar. The marriage was not a happy one, and it is referred to in the Privy Council Records. In 1607 she was ordained to remain in Edinburgh 'free from the keeping of her husband,' and later they were divorced August 1608. She was married, secondly, to George, first Lord Loudoun."

Elizabeth next married Sir Hugh CAMPBELL Sheriff of Ayr, then 1st Lord Campbell of Loudoun, son of Sir Matthew CAMPBELL of Loudoun and Isobel DRUMMOND, after 11 August 1608.¹ (Sir Hugh CAMPBELL Sheriff of Ayr, then 1st Lord Campbell of Loudoun was born about 1554 and died on 15 December 1622 ¹.)

"She (Elizabeth Ruthven) was married, secondly, to George, first Lord Loudoun."

"He (Hugh Campbell 1st Lord Loudoun) married, first, in 1572, Margaret, daughter of Sir John Gordon of Lochinvar, and had issue ; secondly, after 11 August 1608, Elizabeth Ruthven, daughter of William, Earl of Gowrie, formerly wife of Sir Robert Gordon of Lochinvar (see ante, p. 114), and had issue ; she died in January 1617 ; and thirdly (contract dated 11, 17, and 21 October 1617 ), Margaret, daughter of Sir David Home of Wedderburn, by whom he had no issue. She survived him, and married, secondly, Archibald Stewart of Ardgowan."
