"George Seton of Barns, eldest surviving son of Sir John Seton, succeeded his father. The name of his wife I have failed to ascertain, and otherwise very little appears to be known respecting him. He probably died young, and was succeeded by his son (See note below), SirJohn Seton of Barns"

The chronology of generations breaks down if the 4th laird of Barnes, John Seton,, who married the daughter of Francis Hay, Earl of Erroll, is held to be the son of the 3th laird, George Seton, as A History of the Family of Seton states above. If he was his brother, the chronology fits very easily, and possibly explains why the 3rd laird's wife's name is unknown. 1
