This William Gartshore, John's son, gave notice of his father's death, notifying the registrar on 23 August 1861.

In 1871 the census for New Monkland parish Lanarkshire recorded William and Annie Gartshore and their children living at 46 Aitcheson Street, Airdrie: William Gartshore, 33 years, Annie Gartshore 32 years, John Gartshore 12 years, William Gartshore 10 years, George Gartshore 8 years, Robert Gartshore 5 years. William was a labourer in the iron works.

The Gartshore family were living at 5 Waddell's Place, Airdrie in 1881. There were seven children recorded in the household: William Gartshore 43 years, Annie Gartshore 42 years, William Gartshore 20 years, George Gartshore 18 years, Richard Gartshore 15 years, Elizabeth Gartshore 9 years, Alexander Gartshore 7 years, James Gartshore 3 years, Thomas Gartshore 1 year. The two Williams and George were ironstone miners, and Richard was a grocer's shopman.

The census of 1891 recorded William and Annie B. Gartshore living at 12 1/2 South Bridge Street, Airdrie. Four of their children aged between 11 years and 23 years were living with them, as well as two male boarders. William was a coal miner. His daughter Elizabeth was a cotton weaver, his son Alexander an ironmoulder's apprentice. Son James was a brass finisher's apprentice, and young Thomas was still at school.

William was an iron miner, according to the 1884 marriage certificate of his son, George.

In 1907 when his son James married William Gartshore was deceased. He was recorded as a coal miner.

When his wife, Annie, died in 1911, her death certificate recorded her as "Annie Gartshore Widow of William Gartshore Coal Miner".

William married Ann BARTHOLOMEW (DNA Linked), daughter of Richard BARTHOLOMEW and Mary ANDERSON, on 5 November 1858 in Chapel Street, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Ann BARTHOLOMEW (DNA Linked) was born about 1838 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 17 18 and died on 27 November 1911 in 22 Crown Square, Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland 2 6 16.). The cause of her death was cardiac failure over 3 and a half months.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Independent Church, James Innes, Minister of the Independent Chapel, officiating. The witnesses were Robert Black and William Kirkwood.

William Gartshore, aged 21 years, single, of Chapel Street, was a miner by occupation.

Ann Bartholmew, of the same address, was 20 years old and single. She worked as a servant.

The marriage was registered at Airdrie on 13 November 1858. 1
