  Research Notes:

WHICH JEAN?

It is unlikely, if not impossible, that the Jean Gartshore, daughter of the Laird of That Ilk, baptised in 1671, who married into the Hamilton family, was the daughter of Alexander Gartshore and Sarah Brand. Since her children began to be recorded in the registers from 1717, it seems likely she was their granddaughter.

Jean married John HAMILTON of Newton, WS, son of William HAMILTON 3rd of Wishaw and Mary ERSKINE. (John HAMILTON of Newton, WS was born on 30 November 1680 1, baptised on 18 December 1680 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Scotland 4 and died on 25 January 1757 5.)

  Marriage Notes:

"John Hamilton, son of William and Mary Hamilton, married Jean Gartshore, a daughter of Gartshore of Gartshore. They gave birth to: Helen, and Jacobina. John was known as 'of Newton.' John died on 25 January, 1757."

from Mother Bedford website

Note:

No baptism record has been found for Jacobina; only those of James (1717) and Helen(1723) as recorded here.

"2. He married a daughter of Garshore of that Ilk, and had two daughters, Helen, married, in 1741, to Sir Patrick Murray of Auchtertyre, Bart, and had issue, and died at Gorthy, 11th July 1773; and Jacobina, married to Sir George Dunbar of Mochrum, Bart., and had issue, and died at Edinburgh, 28th January 1792."
