  Research Notes:

THE LANDS OF BOARD OR BORD

According to the Gazetteer For Scotland the Board Burn (Broad Burn) rises in the Orchardton Woods west of Cumbernauld, flows north-east towards Smithstone, then north to form the boundary of East Dunbartonshire, passing easter Board as it does so. It turns west through Twechar, goes under the Forth and Clyde Canal (and the Antonine Wall), then falls into the Rivert Kelvine. In all it is six kilometres long. In the 2016 Ordnance Survey map it is mistakenly named as the Broad Burn.

"Sir Malcolm (Fleming of Biggar) left two sons, David and Patrick. Patrick in April, 1369, exchanged his lands of Dalnotter and Gartscandane, in the earldom of Lennox, for the lands of Bord, Tweoures, Croy, etc , in the barony of 'Leygneh,' (Lenzie) belonging to Sir Robert Erskine, and became the progenitors of the Flemings of Bord."
