  General Notes:

"It is on record that in 1188 another Sir Robert de Lawedre (almost every generation named their eldest son Robert) accompanied David Earl of Huntingdon, brother of King William the Lion, on the 3rd Crusade. Burke refers to this Sir Robert as the fifth baron."

from The Lauders of Bass

"Robertus de Lavedre, - soldier of the Cross in 1188, - he having accompanied David, Earl of Huntingdon, brother of King William the Lion, to the Holy Land, in the third crusade. As an emblem of his presence in Palestine at the Holy War, he got for his crest a Saracen's head and a sword."

from Family of Lauder

"From this period there is no special record of the family for some years, but in 1188 we again come upon a Robertus de Lavedre among the Scottish nobles who accompanied the Earl of Huntingdon, brother to William the Lion, to the East, to fight beneath the banner of the cross, under the standard of Richard Coeur-de-Lion. They called it the ' Holy War,' to rescue the sacred sepulchre at Jerusalem from the hands of Saladin, Sultan of Egypt. It was the third crusade, and all Europe was in arms against the Saracens, kings and .emperors fighting side by side - Frederick the First of Germany, Richard of England, and Philip Augustus of France ; while Pope and prelates preached remission of every crime to those who won an unmolested passage for the pilgrims to the East.... A few hundreds did return to their families and their homes, and among that few was our brave crusader, Robert de Lavedre, who is styled fifth Baron."
