DE LAVEDRE (LAUDER), Robert 6th of that Ilk, Sir 1

  • Born: About 1170
  • Marriage (1): Unknown

   User ID: Q580

  General Notes:

"Returning to the chief of the family, we find Sir Robert de Lavedre, probably the son of the crusader, witnessing a charter of John de Mautelant to the Abbey of Dryburgh, and William de Lawedre of Lowther witnessing a grant by Alexander III (reign 1249-1286). This William was sheriff of Perth in 1251, but what relation he bore to the Laird of Bass, whether eldest or second son, is not stated, but we know that the heads of the Lauder family of that period were as often called of that ilk as of the Bass."

from The grange of St. Giles

"Black (George Black, author of The Surnames of Scotland) correctly tells us that a Sir Robert de Lauedre witnessed a charter by John de Mautelent [Maitland] to the Abbey of Dryburgh although no date is given. J.Stewart Smith says that this Lauder is the son of the Crusader, placing it circa 1200."
