Alexander married Jane MAXWELL 'Duchess Jean' on 23 October 1767 in Ayton, Berwickshire, Scotland.1 (Jane MAXWELL 'Duchess Jean' was born about 1748(1749),1 died on 11 April 1812 in London, England 1 and was buried in 1812 in Kinrara, Inverness-shire, Scotland 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (Alexander Gordon) married, first, 23 October 1767, at Ayton, and afterwards at his brother-in-law Mr. Fordyce's house in Argyll Square, Edinburgh, Jane, second daughter of Sir William Maxwell of Monreith, Bart. She was the beautiful, witty, eccentric, and daring Duchess of Gordon, the heroine of innumerable anecdotes. She was immensely popular in society, but her marriage with the Duke did not turn out happily. She lived for long in a small house in the Highlands, but was a good deal in Edinburgh society. She died in London 11 April 1812, aged sixtythree, and was buried at Kinrara, Inverness-shire, in a plot of ground on the banks of the Spey she herself had planted out.

By his first marriage the Duke had issue :

1. George, fifth Duke of Gordon.

2. Alexander, born at Edinburgh 8 November 1785 ; was lieutenant 35th Regiment of Foot, and 2nd Life Guards ; major Aberdeen Militia 1807 ; died, unmarried, at Edinburgh 8 January 1808, and was buried at Elgin.

3. Charlotte, born at Gordon Castle 20 September 1768 ; married there, 9 September 1789, to Charles, fourth Duke of Richmond and Lennox ; died 5 May 1842.

4. Madelina, born 1772 ; married, first, at London, 2 April 1789, to Sir Robert Sinclair of Stevenston, Bart., who died in 1794; secondly, at Kimbolton Castle, 25 November 1805, Charles Fysche Palmer of Luckley Park, co. Berks, who died in January 1843. She died 1 June 1849.

5. Susan, born 2 February 1774 ; married, 7 October 1793 to William, Duke of Manchester, from whom she was separated in 1813, and died 26 August 1828.

6. Louisa, born 12 September 1776 ; married, 17 April 1797, to Charles, afterwards second Marquess of Cornwallis. She died 5 December 1850.

7. Georgina, born at Gordon Castle 18 July 1781 ; married, at Whitehall, 23 June 1803, to John, Duke of Bedford, and died 24 February 1853."

Alexander next married Jane CHRISTIE in July 1820 in Fochabers, Moray, Scotland.1 (Jane CHRISTIE was born about 1770 and died on 17 June 1824 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"The Duke (Alexander Gordon) married, secondly, in July 1820, at Fochabers, Jane Christie, by whom he had had four illegitimate children. She died without further issue 17 June 1824."

"The Duke had several illegitimate children, four by Jane Christie above mentioned. One became a colonel in the Army, and was treated very kindly by the Duchess. A daughter, Catherine, was married, in 1813, to Captain John Anderson of Candacraig, an officer in the 28th Regiment."
