  General Notes:

The 1851 census for New Monkland recorded Ellen Quin, it seems twice:
first with with her brother Thomas, living with their aunt Sarah Vallely at 31 Bairds Square Rawyards. Ellen was aged 26 years and had been born in Ireland. She was a cotton mill weaver, and secondly at 28 Bairds Square with her parents and family. She was 24 years of age and born in Ireland. there she was termed a steam loom weaver.

Ellen Vallaley was recorded as aged 28 when Agnes, her second child, was born in 1855. Her husband, the informant, reported their marriage as having taken place in Airdrie in 1852. Ellen's birthplace was noted as Glebe, County Tyrone, Ireland.

In the 1861 census for New Monkland Lanarkshire Helen Vally was recorded living with her husband and 4 children aged 1 year to 8 years at 2 South Row. Helen Vally was recorded as 34 years of age and had been born in Ireland.

In her death certificate of 1865 Ellen was described as 'married to Edward Valleley, iron miner'. She was recorded as aged 34 years. 6 7 9

  Medical Notes:

Patrick Rankin, MD, Airdrie, certified the cause of death.

Patrick Valleley, brother in law of the deceased, an iron miner, of Omoa Iron Works, Shotts parish, gave notice of Ellen's death before William Paterson, registrar, at Shotts on July 14 1865, and made his X mark.


Ellen married Edward VALLELY, son of Patrick VALLELY and Jane HAGGAN, on 20 November 1851 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Edward VALLELY was born about 1824 in Lanarigh, County Tyrone, Ireland 3 and died 4 November 1873 at 2.00 pm in Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, Scotland.). The cause of his death was internal injuries over 3 weeks.


  Marriage Notes:

The parish register of New Monkland Lanarkshire recorded the banns of marriage between Helen Queen and Edward Vallolly in October 1851.

The birth certificate of Agnes Vallaley in 1855 recorded her parents as married at Airdrie in 1852.

The marriage was in fact on 20 November 1851. Fr J. Buckley celebrated the marriage and the witnesses were John Abercromby and Sally Vallely.

The earlier date recorded in the IGI was likelt to have been the banns of marriage.

NOTE
Sally Vallely was most probably the sister in law of Edward, Sally o'Brian, married to Edward's brother Charles.
