George and Anne Barber were recorded by the 1841 UK census for Galston Ayrshire living at Orchard Street with their three children. Anne was aged 20 years and had been born in Ayrshire.
Note: Anne's age seems unduly low in the entry.

The 1861 census recorded a widow, Ann Barbour, aged 48 years, resident in Henrietta Street, Galston. She was head of a household consisting of her two sons and a daughter, all born in Galston. They lived next to the household of which Helen/Jean? McCallum, also a widow, of 75 years of age, was head. They were very likely related. Ann Barbour was the mother in law of Thomas Quigley son of John Quigley and Catherine Lynas. The census recorded Ann's occupation as a hand sewer.

The 1881 census recorded Annie Barbour as head of a household of two living at 40 Henrietta Street Galston. The other member of the household was Helen McCallum. Annie was a widow age recorded as 68 years and her birthplace was Galston. She was a cotton winder by occupation. ^{4 5}
