George and Anne Barber were recorded by the 1841 UK census for Galston Ayrshire living at Orchard Street with their three children. George worked as a labourer and was aged 24 years. He had been born in Ayrshire.

George's wife, Ann, was recorded in 1861 by the census and was then a widow. Their youngest child recorded was Elizabeth aged 14 years.

His daughter, Helen's death certificate of 1877 describes George as 'cotton weaver deceased'. He was survived by his wife. ⁵
