  General Notes:

Cristian McConville was recorded by the 1881 census for Cambusnethan living at 38 Barton Hall with her father and stepmother. She was aged 12 years and a scholar. The enumerator listed her as 'son' of Hugh McConvill. He also recorded that he/she was born in 'Braid' Lanarkshire. Possibly Irish vowel sounds were making things difficult for him! ¹

Cristian or Christian is a given name used for females for centuries in Scotland, until the 19th century when it morphed into Christine or Christina. Nowadays it is used for males. Hence the registrar's confusion presumably.
