In 1851 Jackson was aged 12 years, the eldest child of five children living with their parents in Calton.

Jackson was a witness at the marriage of Isaac Lynas in 1864 in the Gallowgate. He may be a cousin if not a brother.

In 1869 his wife Margaret Moodie died aged 33 years. Her death certificate described him as a saddler.

In the death certificate of his wife Margaret in 1899, Jackson was recorded as a saddler. ^{5 6}

Jackson married Margaret MOODIE on 3 June 1862 in Calton, Glasgow, Scotland.^{1 2} (Margaret MOODIE was born about 1836 and died in 1869 in Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland.)

Jackson next married Margaret GRAY, daughter of William GRAY and Ellen VASS, on 30 November 1869 in Calton, Glasgow, Scotland.^{2 3} (Margaret GRAY was born about 1835 and died 12 February 1899 at 4.00 pm in 366 Duke Street, Glasgow, Scotland ⁷.). The cause of her death was heart disease.
