The marriage took place according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Wm. B. Turnbull, minister of Gladsmuir, was the officiating minister. Alexr. Campbell and Mary Hannay were witnesses.

Charles Haimes was a single man of 25 years of age. He was a tailor by trade and lived in Haddington. His parents were recorded as Hugh Hannay, a farm servant, and Christina Cairncross. (Note: We know from other sources that his mother was deceased but the marriage certificate does not show that.)

Margaret Hannay was 24 years old and worked as a domestic servant. She was a single woman who lived at Harelaw.

The marriage was registered at Gladsmuir on 17 January 1882.
