Old Parish Registers Glenbucket parish Aberdeenshire Baptisms
"Baptisms in the year 1796 Farquharson [sic] Said day (May 15 from previous entry) John Farquharson [sic] and Jean Strachen his spouse had a son baptised called James before witnesses James and Christian Strachens both in Drumnagoe [sic] James Strachen being sponsor to the child the father being under church censure for Antinuptial Fornication"
Note:
John Farquharson and Jean Strachen appear in the minutes of Glenbuchat Kirk Session in 1796 where an short account is given of their behaviour, reprehensible from the church point of view. It seems that they were married when the child was born but it was clear that the conception had taken place before the mariage itself. They are seriously rebuked and disciplined, each appearing before the kirk session thrice then absolved, John on 29 May and Jean on 5 June. The pages of the document are torn in places, but the gist of the story is a typical one and can be made out. 1 2
