Catherine married Thomas HAMILTON 2nd Earl of Haddington, Covenanter, son of Thomas HAMILTON 1st Earl of Haddington and Margaret FOULIS, 22 February 1622(contract).1 (Thomas HAMILTON 2nd Earl of Haddington, Covenanter was baptised on 25 May 1600 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland 2 and died on 30 August 1640 in Dunglass Castle, East Lothian, Scotland.). The cause of his death was explosion in Castle vaults. Marriage Notes: "Lord Haddington married, first (contract 27 February 1622), Catherine, fourth daughter of John, Earl of Mar, the Lord Treasurer, with a tocher of 20,000 merks. The union of two such powerful families was not looked upon with much favour by King James VI., who is said to have exclaimed on hearing of it, * The Lord haud a grip o' me !
