"Robert Gordon, 3rd of Esslemont and 14th of Hallhead was the son of George Gordon, 2nd of Esslemont and 13th of Hallhead and Anne Bowdler. He married, firstly, Clementina de Rabutin, daughter of Comte unknown de Rabutin. He married, secondly, Lady Henrietta Gordon, daughter of William Gordon, 2nd Earl of Aberdeen and Lady Anne Gordon, on 2 March 1760 at Wallyford. He died in 1793.
He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court in 1760. He abandoned the old Castle and built the old part of the present house."

There is clearly some confusion over the name of Robert Gordon's first wife. 'Comte fe Babktin' seems possibly to be a corrupt form of 'Rabutin'. Other than than that, who can say? 1 3
