CHILDREN

George Forbes married twice. The parish registers available to us record some baptisms of the children he had with his wives, but it is unclear exactly which children belong to which wife since where there there baptismal records available only the father's name is noted. In the registers there appears to be a natural break between the birth of James in 1688 and Diana in 1697, but this may be illusory since there are other children named by House of Forbes who are not accounted for in the records, so there may be no actual gap. In addition, there may have been children named for an earlier child of the same name who died, causing apparent discrepancies. For example a record for a daughter named Jean is available in the register dated 1704, yet House of Forbes names Jean as a daughter of the first wife. Another 'problem' would be that if, as House of Forbes says, Nathaiel is the son of George's second rather than his first wife, then Nathaniel and his wife, Jean Forbes of Newe, would be first cousins. The placings here, therefore, should be treated with caution. ^{1 6}

George married Daughter FARQUHARSON, daughter of Robert FARQUHARSON of Allargue, 1st of Crathie and Elspet ANDERSON.¹ (Daughter FARQUHARSON was born about 1647.)

"George (Forbes), married first a daughter of Farquharson of Allargue, by whom he had (1) George, his heir, and John, and six daughters, Jean, Elspet, Barbara, Mary, Helen and Marjorie."

George next married Isobel FORBES, daughter of William FORBES 5th of Newe and Helen FORBES, on 11 July 1675 in Glenbucket church, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^{1 2 3} (Isobel FORBES was born about 1660.)

Geo. forbes of Skellater gave up his name to be proclaimed with Isobel forbes laull daughter to W^m forbes of new in order to ther being married together and for this effect W^m forbes of new became caution for his daughter and Arthur forbes of culquhany that they should performe ther design ...... and after proclamation they were married at the kirk of Glenbucket"




"He (George Forbes) married, secondly, Isobel, daughter of William Forbes of Newe by whom he had (2) Nathaniel, born 1676, of Rippachie, married Jean, daughter of William Forbes of Newe . (3) Lachlan, born 1677, of Edinglassie, married Margaret Irvine, and had three sons, William, Benjamin and John; and four daughters: Margaret, born 1680. Isobel, born 1684, Agnes, born 1687, married Robert Lumsden of Corrachrie, Beatrix, unmarried. John, James, died young."
