The 1841 census for Old Monkland parish recorded the Bartholomew family living at Carlincroft Square: Richard Bartholomew, 30 years, Mary Bartholomew 30 years, Elisa Bartholomew 5 years, Ann Bartholomew 3 years, Mary Bartholomew 1 year. The parents and eldest child were born in Ireland. The two younger daughters were born in Lanarkshire Scotland. Richard was a furnace filler.

John Bartholomew was a labourer according to his daughter's marriage certificate in 1858. ^{1 3}

Richard married Mary ANDERSON. (Mary ANDERSON was born about 1810 in Ireland ¹ and died after 5 November 1858.)
