"He (Sir John Forbes) married in 1663 Jean, daughter of Sir John Gordon of Haddo, and had four sons and three daughters :

(1) Thomas, his heir.

(2) John, married --------- Walton in London and had a son, John, a draper on Tower Hill, o.s.p. 1764. He had a bond of provision from his brother, Thomas, for 5000 merks in 1684.

(3) William, minister of Tarves, married Janet Gregory, and had a son, James, M.D., of Pitmedden, from whom the second family of Forbes of Echt.

(4) George, o.s.p. 1722.

(1) Jean, married John Chancellor, merchant of Edinburgh (contract 1683, by which her husband settled on her 20,000 merks), and had a daughter, Martha.

(2) Elizabeth, married Walter Stewart of Fortrie, minister at Ellon. Her brother gave her 3000 merks of tocher. (3) Isobel, married 1692 John Strachan of Bellie, son of Sir John Strachan of Thornton, and received the same tocher, her husband settling on her 7000 merks."
