from Index of Marriages
The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland, William Rowe, minister of Laurieston parish officiating. The witnesses were Ellen McKean and James Martin.
Andrew Haimes, a bachelor and journeyman mason, of 6 Duncan Street Edinburgh was the bridegroom. He was aged 23 years and his parents were recorded as Andrew Haimes, tobacconist, living and Christina Haimes MS Carruthers, deceased. (see Note below)
Sarah McKean was recorded as 22 years old, a spinster, who worked as a domestic servant. Her address was 9 Lynedoch Place, Glasgow. Her parents, Henry McKean, a ploughman, and Mary McKean, MS Bryson, were living.
The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 15 June 1878.
Note:
It is unclear why this name was entered here for the mother of Andrew Haimes. Andrew's mother was deceased, it is true, but in his death certificate of 1893 Sarah McKean was recorded as his wife and his deceased mother was named as Hannh Ann Haimes MS Neilson, as is almost certainly the case.
