Civil Parish: Haddington, East Lothian ,

Monument Type: (Former Type) Milestone (18th Century)

Summary: Site of milestone

Description: (1) Canmore Event ID 1085861 (RECORDING/FIELD VISIT): William Forrest's 1799 Map of Haddingtonshire (EMS.s.637) depicts a milestone on the north side of the main Haddington to Edinburgh road (now the B6471) NE of Brown's Mains. The stone, which probably indicated the distances in miles to Haddington (3) and Edinburgh (14) has been removed, possibly soon after it was replaced by a cast iron milepost set about 450m to the E (NT47SE 71), which, too, has been removed. Visited by HES Survey and Recording (JRS) 24 June 2018.
