  General Notes:

In 1841 the census for Edinburgh, St Cuthbert's, recorded Isabella Wilson living at 19 Salisbury Street with her husband, Robert Wilson, an 8 year old called Isabella Prentice, and five young male boarders or lodgers, four of them medical students, one a draper's apprentice. Isabella was recorded in the 40-44 years age category, and her birthplace was Midlothian. She was described as a housekeeper.

The 1851 census for Edinburgh, St Cuthbert's, recorded Isabella Wilson as 59 years of age, and born in Edinburgh.

The 1861 census for Edinburgh, St Cuthbert's parish, in the Canongate registration district, recorded Robert Wilson as head of the household living at 19 Salisbury Street. In this household lived with him his wife, Isabella Wilson. She was aged 69 years and had been born in Edinburgh.

When Isabella Wilson died in 1862, her death certificate recorded her as married to Robert Wilson, hatter. Her recorded age at death was 70 years. Both of her parents were deceased. 2 3 4 6

WILLIAM BROWN-INFORMANT

William was a neighbour of Isabella, in that he lived in a dwelling at 19 Salisbury Street. But he was also the husband of Isabella Wilson Prentice, who was the great niece of Isabella Wilson, nee Jack. He was aged about 31 years and was a gunmaker by occupation, according to the 1861 census.

SALISBURY STREET

This street of houses where Isabella Jack or Wilson lived is now demolished. It occupied a site near Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags, in the Dumbiedykes area of the city on the western edge of Holyrood Park, not far from the new Scottish Parliament.

The cause of death was certified by James Dunsmure MD.

The informant of Isabella's death was William Brown, who was present where her death occurred. His address was 19 Salisbury Street. He gave notice before the registrar, Andrew Balfour, at Edinburgh on 22 December 1862. William was the husband of isabella's brother George's granddaughter Isabella Wilson Prentice. 2


Isabella married Robert WILSON on 1 November 1820 in Saint Cuthbert's Parish, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 (Robert WILSON was born about 1793 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland 3 6.)
