He married Christian Mercer, daughter of the Laird of Ballief, Provost of Perth, widow of Gilbert Skene of that Ilk (see Note below). He became ancestor of the Forbeses of Corsindae, and other families of the name."

The Scots Peerage, vol. 4, states above that there was one Christian Mercer, daughter of the provost of Perth, married to both Gilbert Skene of Skene and Duncan Forbes of Corsindae. Other sources differ. This site follows stirnet. com here, which lists two women named Christian Mercer, of two different fathers, each woman married to one husband. ^{1 2}
