  General Notes:

In the 1855 birth certificate of her daughter, Sarah Adams, where her husband was the informant, Isabella Adams, maiden surname Brown, was recorded as 22 years old and born in the 'County of Armaugh', Ireland.


Isabella Adams was recorded by the 1861 census for the parish of Crichton, Midlothian, living at Lauchland in Oakmuir village. Like her husband, she was Irish born. She had three children to care for, aged from 1 year to 6 years, as well as her father in law and brother in law. Isabella was recorded as 28 years old.


In 1871 the census for Crichton, Midlothian, recorded John Adams as head of a household living at Tynebank, Turnie Dykes, with his wife and family. As well as his wife, there were six others living in the household: five were his children and the sixth was a 'relative' named Mary Adams. John's wife, Isabella, was 36 years old and had been born in Ireland. the two younger children of the household, William aged 7 years, and Mary, the 'relative', aged 8 years were being educated at home. The house they lived in had six windowed rooms.


Isabella Adams or Brown died in 1875 at the recorded age of 44 years. In her death certificate she was recorded as married to John Adams, limeburner. Both of her parents were deceased.

Archibald Gray, surgeon, certified the cause of death.

Thomas Adam [sic], Isabella's son, gave notice of her death before the registrar, George Noble, at Borthwick on 16 January 1875.


Isabella married John ADAMS (DNA Link), son of Thomas ADAMS (DNA Linked) and Sarah McMILLAN (DNA Linked), on 8 May 1854 in Mellon Mill, Pencaitland, East Lothian, Scotland.1 (John ADAMS (DNA Link) was born about 1832 in Armagh City, County Armagh, Ireland 3.)
