SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

Patrick's People is a pedigree family tree of legitimate and illegitimate offspring, showing blood and marriage links over generations, drawing on a variety of resources. It is largely the work of one person, with added contributions from others who have shared information from their research. Sincere thanks is due to each person for their generosity in contributing in this way.

It is not a commercial site, but rather a personal family history database which is still being worked at, meaning that it makes no claims to be 'the truth' but rather an attempt to link up different individuals and families as accurately as possible within the constraints experienced by the website owner, including judgments made where evidence is uncertain or unavailable. The database is shared online in the event that some people might find it useful in their own work The files published on the site are at the discretion of the website owner.

The website was named originally for an ancestor, Patrick Quigly, born 17 March 1824 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, and of Irish descent. It is generated from Legacy software (MyHeritage.com) based on data formatted in a database of the same system. Occasionally, this produces certain anomalies of format or expression onscreen which are beyond the control of the website owner.

Files were written over a period of about twenty five years, so they can vary in quality. The process of reviewing the files is ongoing. Some individual or family files have very scant information, others have more.

Where exact dates are found they are published; some dates are rendered as "about" a particular year and these should be treated always with great caution and only as a possible guide in order to avoid intergenerational errors.

Spouses and children are included where known, but users should be aware that some spouses or children may not have been found or, if found, not included either for reasons of space, or for some other reason.

The index of names and the surnames lists contain alternative spellings for people who feaure in the files.

A system of user IDs (eg User ID: F105) is being introduced gradually, for reference. These will be found in the individual page file under the person's name, but, unfortunately, not in the name lists. User IDs will be attached to the individual in question on a permanent basis.

User ID numbers are not the same as the file page number created by the computer programme, as seen in the web page address. Unlike User IDs the file page numbers may change, for example, if two apparently different individuals are merged into one. Those files that have user ID numbers have been more recently reviewed.

Users of the website should observe copyright as explained in the copyright warning. A general use of the the information for totally non-commercial use is welcomed, but users should be cautious as there may be errors.
