Patrick was aged 14 years, the eldest of the children, when recorded by the 1881 census for Old Monkland parish, living at 16 Merryston Square. He was an iron works labourer, and his birthplace was Coatbridge.

Patrick was the informant of his father's death in 1918. His address then was noted as 95B Dundyvan Road, Coatbridge. 2
