The 1841 census return for Neilston recorded William aged 7 years and having been born in Renfrewshire.

In 1851 William Tweedle was aged 16 years living in Barrhead Renfrewshire with his parents and family. He was a bleacher. The census records his birthplace as Renfrew. 4
