  General Notes:

David's birth certificate of 1856 recorded his father James' occupation as a 'hammerman'. He made his X mark on the birth notice before George Sneddon, the registrar, on 5 August 1856 at Dalziel, 12 days after his son's birth.

The 1871 census recorded a David Quigley was aged 16 years and living with the family of Peter Quigley and Margaret George in Galston, Ayrshire but was born in Lanarkshire. He was employed as a coal miner.

David was not recorded living with Peter, Margaret and family in the 1881 census when they were living in Dalziel.
