In the marriage certificate of his son Robert in 1861, John was recorded as a stonecutter. He was already deceased by then.

John was a mason by trade according to the marriage certificate of his son Thomas in 1865.


John married Mary CALLICHAN on 6 September 1836 in St Andrew's Chapel, Great Clyde Street, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Mary CALLICHAN was born about 1805 and died between 1851 and 1861 3.)
