The 1881 census for Millars Land, Main Street, Campsie, recorded John and his two brothers living there with their grandfather. John was aged 16 years and was a printfield worker. He had been born in Campsie.

It was possibly this John who signed the death notice at his grandfather's death in 1882 at Campsie.
