Alexander had a twin, Thomas.

The 1841 census for Haddington recorded Alexander Nisbet, his wife Ann, and four youngsters -possibly his children- living at Clerkington. Alexander was recorded as 38 years old and his occupation as a mason journeyman. His birthplace was in East Lothian.

When the 1851 census was taken for Haddington Alexander was already deceased, his wife a widow. However their youngest child recorded was aged 4 years so we can say with some confidence that Alexander was alive about 5 years before the census.

Alexander married Ann REDPATH, daughter of Thomas REDPATH and Elspeth TURNER. (Ann REDPATH was born on 21 January 1805 in Lauder, Berwickshire, Scotland.)
