  Research Notes:

UPPERTOUNE

Uppertoune or Upperton was a fermtoun in the parish of Glenbuchat, high in the upper part of the glen. There were a number of fermtouns throughout the glen. It would have consisted of a cluster of small dwellings inhabited by families or individuals, some of whom were often related. The clustering provided some protection and social interaction, and cooperative endeavour when appropriate. In 1606 the Poll Book notes over a dozen such fermtouns in the glen.

John married.
