   Other names for Andrew were McGONEGAL, Andrew 2 and McGONNIGAL, Andrew.3

  General Notes:

Andrew's mother, Margaret McGunigall, was the informant of his birth on 1 December 1873 at Dundee before the registrar Jas. Young. Only her name appeared in the certificate as parent. She was unmarried and Andrew was therefore labelled as illegitimate. Margaret was a spinner in a jute mill.

Nine family members of the McGonnigal family were recorded by the 1881 census living at 19 Paton's Land, Dundee, in a dwelling that had but two rooms with one or more windows. Andrew's two grandparents and six of their children, but not Andrew's mother, Margaret. Andrew was recorded as 7 years of age and had been born in Dundee.

The census of 1891 recorded Andrew McGonegal living at 41 Paton's Land in Dundee with his grandparents and two of his uncles. Andrew was a single man, aged 18 years, according to the entry, and had been born in Dundee. He worked as a jute ropespinner. 1 2 3
