  General Notes:

In the Assistant Immigrant Passenger Lists Donald Carmichael was recorded as having arrived in New South Wales in 1840 on the "Portland", brought out by Jas. Gilchrist. Donald was recorded as
"A Native of Perthshire Son of Archibald a farmer same place, and Elizabeth Sinclair his wife there".
By trade he was a joiner and aged 36 years at embarkation. The information was sworn before Andrew Muir Esq. J.P. The character and person of Donald Carmichael was noted as "Good", Mr John Hastie and Charles Auld M.D. signing to this effect. "Good" was also noted as to his "State of Bodily helath, Strength and probable Usefulness". Lastly the document stated that Donald "Reads & Writes", and there was "No Complaint". 2
