John was a coal miner (hewer) according to the marriage certificate of his son, Patrick, in 1932.

John married Isabella FRAME on 24 March 1907 in St Mary's Church, Larkhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Isabella FRAME was born on 20 October 1887 in Coalburn, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died in 1966.)

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church by Father Francis Anselm Steven. The witnesses were Patrick Finnan and Ellen Finnan.

The groom, John Finnan was an unmarried man aged 31, of High Shawburn, Dalserf. He worked as a coal miner. Both of his parents were deceased.

Isabella Frame, of the same address, was also unmarried. She was 20 years old and was a domestic servant. her parents were both alive.

The marriage was registered on March 26 at Larkhall, the registrar being Robert Nicol.
