Mary McGunnigle was recorded living with her mother and step-father in Hamilton by the 1881 census. Her age was noted as 19 and her birthplace as Old Monkland. She was recorded as married. A child of 2, Daniel Boyle, was listed right beside Mary after all the other siblings. He had been born in Largs and was unexpectedly listed as a boarder. ^{2 3}
