Margaret married Thomas STEWART 2nd Earl of Angus, son of Sir John STEWART 1st Earl of Angus and Margaret ABERNETHY co-heiress, 3 June 1353(papal dispensation).1 2 (Thomas STEWART 2nd Earl of Angus was born about 1329 and died in 1361 1.). The cause of his death was plague.


  Marriage Notes:

"Thomas Stewart, second Earl of Angus, was only an infant at his father's death, and does not appear on record until 1353 in the dispensation for his marriage, the petition for which was seconded by John King of France, in terms which suggest that the Earl's youth was probably spent at the French Court......

In terms of the dispensation already referred to, Thomas, Earl of Angus, married Margaret, daughter of Sir William Sinclair of Roslin, who survived him, and married, secondly, Sir William Sinclair of Herdmanston, to whom she bore several children. By Margaret Sinclair the Earl had two daughters, co-heiresses."

"Margaret, married, first, dispensation dated 3 June 1353, to Thomas Stewart, Earl of Angus, who died in 1361. They were said to be related in the fourth degree. She married, secondly, Sir John Sinclair of Hermandston. She had a pension from King David II. from the lands of Tollie."

Margaret next married Sir John SINCLAIR of Herdmanston, son of Sir William SINCLAIR of Herdmanston and Unknown.2 3 (Sir John SINCLAIR of Herdmanston was born about 1325.)

"Sir John St Clair of Herdmanston was taken prisoner at the battle of Neville's Cross, and entrusted to William Dacre and Warene de Scargehill, 8 December 1346. He had a charter from William, Earl of Douglas and Mar, who calls him his beloved cousin John of St. Clair, of the lands of Herdmanston in free blench for a pair of gilt spurs, and the lands of Carfrae for the customary services, with ward, relief, and marriage, dated 17 June 1377. He married Margaret, daughter of Sir William Sinclair of Roslin, and widow of Thomas Stewart, Earl of Angus, and had issue"
