OGILVY, Alexander 2nd of Inverquharity ¹

  General Notes:

"Alexander was the eldest son of John Ogilvy first baron of Inverquharity by his wife (said to be Marion Seaton daughter to William Seaton.)

He succeeded to Inverquharity about 1434 as second baron of Inverquharity. Soon afterwards Alexander was able to extend the estate westwards. The earl William Douglas granted Alexander Ogilvy son and heir of John Ogilvy for his faithful service the lands of Newton, Herdhill, Balbrydie, Kinnordy and Meams and Easter Lednathie in a charter dated at Perth 15 January 1434/5. Alexander married Janet TOWERS about 1439.¹ (Janet TOWERS was born about 1420.)

  Marriage Notes:

"About 1439, Alexander married Janet Towers, eldest daughter and an heir of the deceased William de Tours of Barnton. In exchange for her share of the lands of Barnton, Nicholas Borthwick of Balhousie granted to Alexander and Janet, prior to their marriage the lands of Ludeinch and Wester Lednathie, Kirriemuir in a charter dated 15 March 1438/39.
