Matilda married Malise (II) 5th Earl of Strathearn, son of Robert 4th Earl of Strathearn and Unknown, before December 1257.^{1 2 3} (Malise (II) 5th Earl of Strathearn was born about 1220, died by 23 November 1271 in France ¹ and was buried in Dunblane, Stirlingshire, Scotland ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Matilda, married to Malise, Earl of Strathearn. This is proved by his charter, dated
at Crieff 12 December 1257, granting to the monks of Inchaffray the advowson of the church of Cortachy, in the diocese of Brechin, and obliging himself and his heirs which he had by his wife Matilda, daughter of Gillebert, late Earl of Caithness and Orkney, to warrant the grant.' Matilda was mother of the next Earl of Strathearn, and it is more than probable that it was through her that the Earldoms of Caithness
and Orkney came to his grandson."

"according to Bishop Tulloch Magnus was succeeded by an Earl Gilbert.Torfaeus
also states that an Earl Gilbert succeeded who died in 1256. This is corroborated by a charter from the Inchaffray Charters at Dupplin, by which Malise, Earl of Strathearn, on 12 December 1257, grants to the abbot and canons of Inchaffray the advowson of the church of Cortachy, and also obliges himself that he and the heirs he has had by Matilda his spouse, daughter of Sir Gilbert, late Earl of Caithness and Orkney, shall ratify the gift. This agrees with the date above assigned to the death of Earl Gilbert of Caithness and Orkney, and he was, according to Torfaeus, succeeded by his son Magnus, who died in 1273, and so on until the Magnus, Earl of Orkney and Caithness, who died about 1350."

"This Earl married, first, Marjory, daughter and one of the coheiresses of Sir Robert de Muschamp. The marriage must have taken place about 1243 or 1244, as on 20 March 1254-55 it was testified that Muriel, their eldest daughter, had reached the age of ten.' The Countess died before the last date, and the Earl married, secondly, before December 1257, Matilda, daughter of the late Gilbert, Earl of Caithness
and Orkney."
