Maldred or Malcolm King of Cumbria 1

  • Born: About 1005
  • Marriage (1): Ealdgith or Algitha 1

   User ID: K52.

  General Notes:

"MALDRED, or Malcolm, the second son of Crinan, is believed to have become King of the Cumbrians when his
elder brother succeeded as King of Scots. There is no direct proof of this, and Fordun states that Cumbria was
in 1034 bestowed on Malcolm, afterwards Malcolm III., son of Duncan I. But he was only a child at that date, and it is more probable it was his uncle, the older Malcolm, who was made ruler of Cumbria. Certainly he is[found closely linked to that district, which then included Strathclyde as well as Cumberland, by marriage relations and other ties."

from Scots Peerage 1

Maldred married Ealdgith or Algitha, daughter of Uchtred Earl of Northumberland and Aelgifu or Elgiva.1 (Ealdgith or Algitha was born about 1015.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (Maldred or Malcolm) married Ealdgith or Algitha, daughter of Uchtred, Earl of Northumberland, by his wife Aelgifu or Elgiva, daughter of Aethelred II., King of England."
