James Fitzpatrick, who made his X mark, was aged 22 years and of Brocketsbrae, Lesmahagow. He worked as a coal miner and was unmarried. His father was deceased.

Jane Feely, who also made her X mark, was 21 years of age and also of Brocketsbrae. She was recorded as a "hawker's daughter" and was a spinster. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Lesmahagow on 21 June 1875, Duncan Campbell being the registrar. ²
